What is Physio-led Pilates?

Pilates is a form of low impact conditioning exercise that helps to strengthen the core and improve flexibility, restoring normal muscle balance in the body. It also improves postural awareness and breathing control to help you feel relaxed and refreshed.

Physiotherapists have an expert knowledge of the neuro-musculoskeletal system and experience of rehabilitation through exercise.

Physio-led Pilates is suitable for almost everyone, including those with spinal, musculoskeletal or neurological conditions. Pilates is also a very safe and effective form of exercise during and after pregnancy, pre and post surgery and as an adjunct to specific sports. It can also enhance weight loss programmes.

Classes are available at the following times:

  St Ives
Monday 12:30pm - 1:30pm
Tuesday 10:30am - 11:30am
Saturday 8:30am - 9:30am
Saturday 9:30am - 10:30am

Coming to a class

What to expect

  • Experienced Physiotherapist instructor with Pilates certification
  • Close tuition and exercise modification to suit all abilities and individual needs
  • Small class numbers
  • Friendly and relaxed atmosphere
  • Warm up and cool down to enhance posture, balance and flexibility
  • Mat based exercises to improve core strength, functional strength and restore normal muscle balance

What to bring

  • Your Physio-led Pilates Health Questionnaire (download here)
  • Pilates/Yoga mat
  • A towel to use as an extra head rest
  • Comfortable clothing — most people like to wear a t-shirt and jogging bottoms or leggings
  • Bottle of water
  • Normal or toe sox with non-slip soles
  • Small set of hand weights (optional)

Class equipment

Small equipment is sometimes used in classes to give a varied workout, including:

  • Resistance bands for controlled stretching and strength work
  • Spiky balls for deep massage and proprioceptive feedback
  • Ova balls for added core strength and control work, used to make exercises easier or harder


All classes are run on a termly basis and are paid in advance. Classes cost £11 per session.

If you are unable to attend a class, please speak to your class instructor as it may be possible to swap to another class.
